Hello Sweet Child!
If you're reading this and you are at that point in life where you've lost all your hope, drained all the energy in your soul, completely given up on things, and if you just wish to quit (may it be a tough situation, life, or anything under the sun), trust me when I say, "DON'T"!
For people who know some bit of me, it must sound so crazy for you to listen ME saying this! Don't worry, my account didn't get hacked! Neither am I possessed by the dark forces of the universe, nor am I drunk typing this piece! It's still me!
And for those who do not know me that well, a brief introduction:
I'm a pessimist. Not the simple kind! I'm that species of pessimist, who'd think that he'd lose in a toss of a biased coin with 2 heads (with me choosing head, of course). I mean it's possible, isn't it? Who knows if the coin comes out to not fall on its face but ends up standing tall! I can have that kind of a luck, no? Yes, I'm that kind of a pessimist!
So, when a defeatist soul like mine's says 'DON'T QUIT', I guess it does deserve a hearing as to what it has to say! You can at least wait till I lay down my rationale behind the thought!
Or you know what, forget the rationale too! Just a few mathematical numbers (and here I lose the readers who do not like Mathematics!).
Let's take the coin toss again, and let's assume that it is a fair coin this time. That isn't that difficult to digest, right? So, here are the rules:
Every coin toss: Event in our life
Heads - A Positive event
Tails - A Negative event
And for cynics:
Coin Standing Tall - Neither Positive, Nor Negative event. So this doesn't really count!
Now that the premise has been set and we are ready to go ahead, One Quick Question:
Do you know probability?
For those poor souls who do not know probability, this might be the end of the article for you guys!
For others, this should be simple:
Probability of a Head (Positive Event): 0.5
Probability of a Tail (Negative Event): 0.5
Now, we all agree that our life is a series of events.
Let's safely assume that number to be 1000. For a life lived around 50 years (See the pessimist in me! Doesn't even want to give too many years to life!)
20 events every year is not that tough to deny (until and unless you've got a very boring life which I really hope you haven't)!
Now the real deal:
What is the probability of getting a life with 0 Heads/Positive Events (Oh, you actually are a serious sad case!): 0.51000
You know how much it translates to be? 9.332636185032189e-302! Yeah, that's the answer (I just googled).
Now I'm no genius to do a comparison of how small that number is (I'm just hiding my incompetency at Maths here!), but trust me it's waayyy too small to be even considered! It's that small (literally and not figuratively) that I didn't even bother to read it! This number my friend, is the probability of having a life with zero positive events! In the worst case, you'd end up with this number and trust me it must be a heck of a case if you end up in this category!
Then why are we so hopeless! Why are we so ready to give up and give in at a mere incident which has only a factor of 0.5 associated with it. Why are we ready to give up because a few events out of those one thousand events didn't go our way!
I know some of you would argue that there are some events that change the course of life and what if that event turns out to be a 'Tails'? Maybe a lot of you would say that the event has happened already and it turned out to be a 'Tails'!
True, that can happen! It must have been hard or is hard for you but here's the thing:
How do you know you'd never have any other event which is a 'Heads'?
Did you peep into the future (You got your hands on the time machine, Mother of God!)?
Can you write it down with supreme surety that there won't ever be a 'Heads'?
You can't do that, right?
Let's be pessimistic again now! Let's say that, that moment of 'Heads' is 1 in future now!
Even then I want to ask, why do you want to miss out on that 1 moment that has been written in your destiny!
Who knows what that one positive moment holds for you?!
Who knows how big that one 'Heads' might be?
Who knows what kind of happiness it brings in your life and what it gives you?
Who knows how beautiful that event can be that it might change your perception of the world!
The possibilities are unfathomable! And so is the 'Toss of Coin'!
So, even if there's even one 'Head' that's written in my life in future, I want to live to witness it! I want to fight my way through things to come out on top at least for once! I want to see what it is that life had in-store for me! And no matter how tough a fight it takes, I'm ready to fight it! Just for one 'Head'! Because, I deserve that 'Head' and it is meant for me to see!
And when that 'Head' passes by, I want to hope for another 'Head' in the future!
Isn't that what life is? Isn't that what we should keep looking for? Isn't that what should drive us in life?
I want to see that 'Head' and I'd keep Hustling for it! Will you? :)
